On January 27, 2026, the Association of Filipino Students in Hungary (AFSHu), in coordination with the Philippine Embassy in Hungary, formally inducted its newly elected Executive Officers and Board of Directors for the 2025–2026 term during an oath-taking ceremony held at the Labor Office of the Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in Hungary.
The ceremony opened with a message from Mr. Jeffrey Peñamante Salik, Minister and Consul General of the Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in Hungary, who welcomed the new officers and highlighted the importance of leadership, responsibility, and unity among Filipino students abroad.
The oath of office was administered by Her Excellency Maria Elena P. Algabre, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of the Philippines to Hungary, officially marking the transition of leadership within the Association.
In her address, AFSHu President Eleaverne Shayne Ruebe reaffirmed the Association’s commitment to leadership and to the continued support of Filipino students in Hungary. She also recognized the dedication and hard work of her fellow officers, who balance academic responsibilities, part-time work, personal lives, and their roles as student leaders.
This was followed by a message from Board of Directors Chairperson Achilles Isidore Israel, who spoke on cooperation, leadership, and the responsibilities and challenges faced by students pursuing higher education abroad.
Her Excellency Ambassador Algabre also delivered a special message emphasizing leadership, the value of education, and the importance of recognizing excellence among Filipino scholars. During her remarks, she honored the 2025 Stipendium Hungaricum Excellence Awardees, namely Andrea Bergula Saises, a BSc Nursing and Patient Care student at Semmelweis University, and Prynces Therese Lacatan Lacdang, an MSc Environmental Science student at the University of Nyíregyháza.
The ceremony underscored AFSHu’s continued collaboration with the Philippine Embassy in Hungary and reaffirmed the Association’s mission to strengthen programs, partnerships, and initiatives that empower Filipino students and foster unity within the community.
