International Migrants Day 2025 Celebration in Budapest

On December 17, 2025, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Hungary hosted the International Migrants Day celebration in Budapest, bringing together diverse migrant communities to celebrate culture, identity, and solidarity.

Cultural Performances and Community Booths

The event featured vibrant performances from various communities, including vocal performances from Ukraine and the Philippines, as well as a cultural dance by Indonesia. Guests also enjoyed booths showcasing local dishes, offering everyone a chance to experience the richness of different cultures through food, stories, and shared moments.

The Philippine Community’s Participation

The Philippine booth, organized with the support of the Filipino community, served chicken empanadas and fried spring rolls, commonly known as lumpiang shanghai. A fun trivia game about the Philippines added to the lively atmosphere and was warmly enjoyed by participants of all backgrounds.

The celebration was graced by the presence of the Philippine Embassy in Hungary, reaffirming its continued support for Filipino migrants and students as active and valued members of the migrant community.

Student Migrants as Cultural Bridges

Student migrants play an important role in building inclusive societies. Beyond their academic pursuits, they contribute through cultural exchange, community engagement, and cross-border collaboration. Events like this highlight how students serve as bridges between cultures, enriching both their host country and the communities they represent.

AFSHu extends its sincere gratitude to IOM Hungary and partner organizations for creating a meaningful space where migrant communities could come together to celebrate diversity, connection, and shared experiences.
